Cynthia Davis |
Standing navigation on the end of a needle |
January 11 March 16, 2013

|
Harpswell based artist Cynthia Davis will be exhibiting a body of work utilizing reclaimed and repurposed maps affected by cutting, sewing, drawing, painting and marbleizing. Her imaginative geographies present a new perspective on how the human species catalogs information and documents their memory of place. Through her manipulation of maps she has found a way to blend the nostalgic with the contemporary. The multiple layers of Davis' work reflect a level of involvement with her creative process that is intensely meticulous and the overlapping mark making in her work indicates a meditative process that leaves behind remarkably beautiful evidence of her quest for her viewers to follow.
***NOTE: The artist will be in residence on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays creating a new site-specific work during the length of her show.
