Speaking in Tongues features work in various media that utilizes text to explore the grey area between a simple truth and a profound insight. Flashing neon signs explore the subtle difference between obvious and existential statements, photographs document absurd and ineffective attempts to communicate a message, and sculptural installations manipulate the physical structure of language to mix up meaning and material. The exhibition features a new large-scale neon sculpture titled Everything You Are Looking For, made in collaboration with artist/designer Amy Jorgensen.
Gallery Hours: Wed-Sat 12pm - 6pm. |

You are (on) an island, 2011, neon, wood, latex paint, 20 x 120 x 96 inches
This neon sign was made in collaboration with Mike Fleming. This signs statement, You are on an island. transforms as the word 'on' blinks rhythmically on and off. For the moment that single word remains unilluminated, a new phrase with a different meaning emerges: You are an island. |
